Thanks to those who completed the reader survey. Some suggestions that I received:
- Engaging subjects – Email subjects lines will give a flavor of what’s inside, maybe with an emoji for good measure π
- Productivity seems like the most favorite section, so we’ll start with it going forward.
- VIP – many are interested in a member’s website to go deeper. I’m working on it.
- Eggs – One reader wants tips on making the best scrambled eggs. π₯
Seven Point Sunday – September 12, 2021
Stop telling people how busy you are. It can shut down the conversation, make you sound bored/lazy, and reveal that you’re not working smart. Deepak Chopra and I explain.
π° Finance
Check out Enviva Biomass (Ticker: EVA) which is the world’s largest maker of wood pellets. It’s part of the growing renewable energy sector. With long term contracts in place, it has a healthy cash flow and generates a dividend near 6%. Good earnings visibility, reduce carbon, get paid.
πΌΒ Portfolio Career
Meet Peggy Still Johnson. She is an artist, producer, fundraiser, and executive. “It has been helpful for me to create vision boards and messaging around me.” Check out her daily schedule (which includes time for meditation, walking the dog, and a smoothie).
π΅Β Music
Listen to Legion of Peace by Lori Henriques Quintet featuring Joey Alexander. Every song on this jazz-for-kid’s album is inspired by a Nobel Peace Laureate. The album features a spoken word intro by Laureate Muhammad Yunus. My favorite track is “Brave as a Girl.” Lori is a remarkable songwriter & performer. Learn about her practice routine: “Sit on the bench and do the work.” I was blessed to help produce & play bass.
π Books
ReadΒ The Courage to Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga. I found this book eye-opening: (1) all problems are interpersonal relationship problems, (2) don’t seek recognition from others, (3) only the present exists (so stop thinking about the past), (4) happiness takes courage. Bottom Line: If you don’t like me, I’m fine with that.
ππ½ Meditate
A two minute meditation to overcome anxiety:
- Find a quiet place
- Recall an anxious experience
- Notice where you feel it in your body
- What else can you feel in your body?
- Observe and breathe.
