7PS: Before You’re Invited In 📧

by | Jun 21, 2026

Read time: 1 minute, 410 words.

With America’s 250th upon us, a yarn for you.

Benjamin Franklin didn’t begin by joining powerful rooms.

He built one.

In 1727, at just 21, he founded the Junto in Philadelphia.

It was a mutual-improvement club for tradesmen and practical thinkers.

Not elites.

Not aristocrats.

People who wanted to read, debate, learn, and make their city better.

Ideas from those meetings helped lead to several important Philadelphia civic institutions.

Franklin didn’t wait for influence.

He gathered useful people.

Then the room became useful enough to matter.

What room are you waiting to be invited into that you should be building yourself?

Ask that at a July 4th BBQ party and you’ll understand why I don’t get invited to many.

Read Close the Loop: The Life of an American Dream CEO & His Five Lessons for Success by Raghbir Sehgal & Kabir Sehgal.
I wrote my dad’s biography. The inspiring story of his journey to America & the wisdom he gained. Dad left India as a teenager with little money. He worked factory jobs in the UK & eventually moved to the US. Living in the Deep South in the 1960s, he experienced discrimination that redoubled his desire to succeed. Starting as a junior engineer, he rose to become Chairman & CEO.

Los Angeles Times & San Francisco Chronicle bestseller.

🎵 Music

American Quilt Sessions: Blues for America’s 250th by Diane Durrett feat. Kabir Sehgal (hi), John Pagano, Melissa Junebug, Rhett Huffman. We recorded this 4 song EP at Tree Studios in Decatur, Georgia. Draws upon blues as one of the country’s great shared musical languages. Good for summer evenings, long drives, and cookouts.
