7PS: How to build an orbit (in the creative world)

by | Aug 9, 2026

Read time: 1 minute, 370 words.

Making money in indie music is tough.

A project might earn $100 from streaming in a year.

So I have to be thoughtful about where my time goes.

The number of artists and engineers I work with gets smaller every year.

Not because there’s a shortage of talent.

Because I’ve built a creative orbit around execution.

I tend to work with people who have experience in the corporate world or working with customers.

(or who were in the military!)

They call back immediately.

They finish.

They ask, “How did I do?”

There’s usually no pressure, no drama.

And each collaboration gets easier than the last.

Everyone prioritizes different things.

This is simply what works for me.

⚑️ Productivity

Try a one-tab day. Open only one browser tab at a time. When you need something else, close the tab you’re on first. It’s surprisingly effective at forcing completion instead of accumulation.

πŸ’° Wealth

Automate boredom. Anything financial you “mean to do later” should be automated or removed. Bills, transfers, investing, savings. Wealth compounds when attention is not required to maintain it.

Working Identity by Herminia Ibarra. Through engrossing stories, from a literature professor turned stockbroker to an investment banker turned novelist, Ibarra reveals a set of guidelines that all successful reinventions share.

🎡 Music

Discovery by Daft Punk. Recorded at Daft House, Thomas Bangalter’s home studio in Paris between 1998 and 2000, the album is built on drum machines, tight looping, and extensive sampling. It frames repetition as celebration rather than minimalism, with disco and funk DNA, bright hooks, and vocoder-treated vocals that feel joyous instead of ironic.
