7PS: Need to know 🀐

How do you earn a PhD while coaching the NFL’s biggest stars?

You don’t tell anyone.

For years, Adam Henry balanced NFL coaching with doctoral studies. But few in football knew.

He worried that if one of his receivers struggled, people would assume he was distracted by school. If his classmates knew he was an NFL coach, they might assume he was receiving special treatment.

So he kept the worlds separate.

I understand why.

When I worked in banking, I rarely talked about my music. I didn’t want colleagues to mistake having another passion for lacking commitment to my job.

Not everyone needs to know everything about you.

Sometimes privacy is not about hiding. It’s about protecting what you are building.

Be thoughtful about who you read into your life.

Everyone else can remain on a need-to-know basis.

πŸ’° Wealth

The Simplicity Premium. Every additional financial account, strategy, or obligation carries a hidden maintenance cost. Periodically ask: would a slightly lower return be worth dramatically lower complexity? Long-term wealth favors systems you can actually stick with.

πŸ“š Books

Chip War by Chris Miller. One of the best books I’ve read recently for understanding the world right now. How semiconductors became the hidden foundation of modern power, shaping everything from AI and smartphones to military strength and the rivalry between the U.S. and China. You start seeing chips (and their supply chains) as geopolitics.

🎡 Music

The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse. Recorded during a period of internal tension and label pressure, the album balances expansive ambition with introspective restraint. Its shifting dynamics and existential tone marked the band’s transition from indie outsider to something more restless and ambitious.

Describe the version of my life that looks calm because I’ve stopped wanting anything. Explain what I gain from that peace and what future version of me might resent it.
