In 2015, I met heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield on a flight.

We struck up a conversation about boxing.

I mentioned I was producing an album by my friend Ted Nash.

It featured a speech by Nelson Mandela who had a boxing background.
​
Holyfield agreed to read Mandela’s speech for the album.
​
​The New Yorker featured the recording session in Talk of the Town.
​
But the track never made it onto the album.
​
I forgot to get Holyfield to sign the release form. 🤦🏽‍♂️
​
Rookie mistake.
​
By the time we wrapped the album, his manager had changed.
​
Holyfield was traveling.
​
And I was on military assignment.
​
The opportunity slipped away.
​
The moral of the story: do the paperwork up front.
